    1. Welcome to the Engineering Student Success Center

      The ESS Center at The University of New Mexico helps all UNM School of Engineering student success by providing them with support through a holistic co-curricular experience. Additionally, we engage the country's future engineers through various outreach activities.
       
       

      Elsa

       Elsa Maria Castillo – Engineering Student Success Center (ESS) Director and School of Engineering (SOE) Scholarship Administrator. As ESS Director, Elsa oversees all the ESS Center team activities and serves as the point of contact for special projects and grant-funded activities.  As the Scholarship Administrator for the school, Elsa offers direct support to students through 1-on-1  scholarship or financial aid consultation, manages the SOE scholarship programs, and offers information on financial resources available through the SOE or outside entities.  She could also offer a presentation to classes or student groups on Scholarship and Financial Aid resources at the undergraduate or graduate levels.

    2. Small Study Room

      In here you can study or use the refrigerator/microwave – This is another location students can study, have a lunch break or store their food.

    3. Student Study Area

      ESS Study Room: ESS Study Room is designed to support engineering, computer science and construction management students with their academic and professional goals. This room is also utilized as the designated place for the ESS tutors to meet with students. 

    4. Unit Administrator

      Doug Williams –  ESS Unit Administrator and Tutoring Program Coordinator.  As the ESS Unit Administrator, Doug oversees the day-to-day internal and external finance and human resources activities for the ESS Center.   As the Tutoring Coordinator, Doug can help you find a tutor to help with your SOE specific and foundational courses or provide you  with information on how to apply for a tutoting position within the ESS Center.

    5. Internship & Job Placement Coordinator

      Nada Abdelhack - Internship & Job Placement Coordinator.  Nada can do 1-on-1 Career Planning, helping you find that perfect job or internship that not only helps you pay the bills, but also gets you direct experience relevant to your chosen career pathway. She can also help with anything career related, including reviewing cover letters, resumes, job applications, or how to prepare for an interview. She could also offer a presentation to classes or student groups on resume/cover letter development, interviewing skills, or how to prepare for a career fair.

    6. First Year Retention Specialist

      Dr. Yadéeh Sawyer – Success and Retention Manager.  Yadeeh offers support to students 1-on-1 Student Success Planning and Academic Coaching.  She runs two mentoring programs: STEM Mentoring with professionals and Peer Mentoring as well as coordinates our stand-alone academic success workshops and ESS weekly communication bulletin.  Along with Nada Abdelhack, Yadeeh also co-leads the Summer Bridge Career Prep sessions.

    7. Student Recruiters

      Gregory Vigil and Dara Smith - our SOE recruiters are great to help you find where your true passion lies, they are very intuitive with that and know so much about the research taking place within each department.

    8. Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab

      3D Printing – For small projects there is a computer aided design lab. Here you can find help with designing parts and a 3D printing lab where you can obtain help with printing components. Please see student employees for help with your class project(s)

    9. Computer Lab

      ESS Computer Lab: A dedicated study and computing space provided by the UNM Engineering Student Success Center.

    10. The Back Study Room

      You have 24/7 access to the Engineering Student Success Center. This is another space students utilize to study. Please see someone at the front desk to gain access. Lockers are also available at a low cost. Some students may want to rent a locker instead of carrying their books around campus.
