    1. Welcome to U of T Mississauga!

Hello, and welcome to the University of Toronto Mississauga! Whether you’re joining us on campus or from the comfort of your own home, we are so excited to have you explore our beautiful campus!

This virtual tour is brought to you by the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office.

The University of Toronto Mississauga was founded in 1967, and has grown to become the second-largest division of the University of Toronto. We offer over 180 program options across more than 90 areas of study. We have 12 admission categories with some programs unique to the Mississauga campus such as Forensic Science, Theatre & Drama Studies, and Communication, Culture, Information & Technology. UTM is now home to over 15,300 undergraduate students, 900 graduate students, over 3,800 full- and part-time employees (including 1,250 permanent faculty and staff) as well as over 72,000 alumni including astronaut Dr. Roberta Bondar and Canadian media executive Kristine Stewart.

      Self-Guided Tour Introduction

If you’re taking a self-guided tour on campus, please don’t hesitate to speak with a representative at the Student Recruitment & Admissions office if you have any questions or concerns! We’re located in the Kaneff Centre, room 1270. Keep an eye out for our light blue campus tour flags! You can also give our office a call at 905-828-5400 or send us an email if you think of something after the tour is finished.

Before you head out, here is what to expect on the tour. The tour takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, and covers roughly 1.3 km. All buildings have elevators and door openers, and the route keeps to smooth, wide indoor pathways whenever possible. If you need any additional accommodation, please reach out to our office so we can help, whether by offering alternate routes or more seating areas.

With that out of the way, let’s start the tour! Begin by entering the Kaneff Building, which sits directly in front of the bus stop. This part of the tour will be indoors.

      U of T Land Acknowledgement
We wish to acknowledge this land on which the University of Toronto operates. For thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

    2. Innovation Complex / Kaneff Centre

Built in 1992 and reopened in 2000, this building was initially designed to house management and social science programs, but now features our Institute of Management and Innovation, the departments of Management and Economics, as well as a few graduate programs.

The building was named after Ignat Kaneff, a self-made Bulgarian Canadian business mogul and UTM’s first multimillion-dollar donor. He wanted to provide more accessible opportunities for youth and ensure they had the chance to go university or college, as he did not have such access to education growing up.

Designed by architects Daniel Teramura and Carol Phillips, and built by PCL Constructors Canada, the Kaneff Centre (KN) is a hub for teaching, research, administration, and social activities. You’ll also find instructional spaces, the Office of the Registrar, the Finance Learning Centre, the ICUBE business accelerator, and the Blackwood Gallery, which presents curated exhibitions featuring the work of local, national, and international professional artists.

In the photo section, there is an image of KN 137, the largest lecture hall in this building! It is a great example of the kinds of classrooms you’ll encounter, especially during your first year when classes tend to be larger. Students are also offered tutorials of sizes ranging from 15 to 30 students. You are also always welcome to go to your professors’ or TA’s office hours if you prefer a more intimate learning environment.

The Innovation Complex, a four-storey addition to the Kaneff Centre opened in 2014, features case-study rooms, behavioral research labs and a bright rotunda for gathering and studying. It is designed to LEED Silver standards, and includes a green roof, stone wall cladding and vertical aluminum sun shading on the upper floors. Fully integrated with the two-story Kaneff Centre, it features a Second Cup and an underground pedestrian tunnel that connects to the William G. Davis Building.

Student tip - If you aren’t sure what to talk about, ask them about their research. Most professors and TAs want to share!

Fun fact - The Kaneff Centre was used in the filming of the Handmaid’s Tale (Waterford’s trial) and The Boys season 2! The KN rotunda is also a very popular spot for guest lectures, fairs, and other events involving on and off-campus resources.

Student Recruitment & Admissions and the Office of the Registrar

As a prospective student or applicant to the University of Toronto Mississauga, your main point of contact is the Student Recruitment & Admissions office. Our office is open year-round, and we can answer your questions and inquiries via phone, email or in person.

As a registered student at UTM, your point of contact shifts to the Office of the Registrar, which offers academic and financial advising. They have a similar function/service to your high school guidance office. You can book an appointment with an academic advisor to get advice on course enrolment or see a financial advisor for support on financial aid options (scholarship, student loans, etc.).

Next, we’re heading to the William G. Davis Building, where we’ll see our bookstore, gym facilities, more lecture halls, and food services.

Directions: Head down the stairs next to the Office of the Registrar in the Rotunda, and enter through the Davis tunnel, which is located straight ahead in between the lower-level elevators and washrooms. You can also take the elevator down to floor B and turn left. Head through the tunnel and proceed to the end of the hallway. The UTM Bookstore will be behind you, to your right. This part of the tour will be indoors.

    3. Recreation, Athletics, and Wellness Centre

Opened in 2007, the Recreation, Athletics and Wellness Centre, or “the RAWC,” offers a wide variety of fitness, training, and recreation programs for campus and community members.

This modern, athletic facility is equipped with everything you'd expect from a world-class facility, including:

      • Exercise machines, recumbent bikes, and a wide range of different resistance training equipment that can be adapted to accommodate a variety of different accessibility considerations.
      • All-gender and private changing facilities.
      • A state-of-the art swimming pool, featuring 8, 25-metre lanes with movable bulkhead and depth-adjustable floor.
      • An aquatic centre features a 12-person hot pool and a viewing gallery that overlooks the pool area for competitions and championships.
      Something for Everyone

At the Department of Recreation, Athletics & Wellness, take advantage of a continuum of programming, everything from casual recreation to varsity/excellence.

      • Be active right at home! Browse our virtual programming to stay connected, get active, and move your way to wellness.

      • We are Tri-Campus. We are Intramurals. We are EAGLES. No matter what sport you play, UTM Sports has something for everyone.
      • Make a splash at the RAWC! Whether you're just learning to swim or want to register for our Masters Swim Club, make sure you check out our Aquatics.

      Good to know...
Our women’s only programming and hours are designed to encourage women of all athletic abilities to access our facilities and programs. Whether you’re just learning to use equipment or looking to join a group fitness class, our women’s-only hours provide a comfortable, inclusive and encouraging atmosphere while supporting other women.

    4. William G. Davis Building

The William G. Davis Building was built in 1974 and is the campus’ largest academic building, with lecture theatres, classrooms, science and technology labs and the Greenhouse lab. Despite its age, we’ve upgraded and renovated almost every corner of the building, including renovations as recent as those made in 2020 to the main entrance, the atrium, and a brand-new cafeteria. These renovations also extend to our labs.
Anthropology and Earth Sciences are located on the main floor, Physics is located on the lower level, and Biology and Chemistry are located on the upper floors of the Davis Building. If you’re interested in the sciences, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art technology and equipment when you are doing lab components for your course work.

The William G. Davis Building is also home to:

      Pro Tip
If you’re heading between the Davis Building and the Innovation Complex, you can take the underground tunnel to get where you’re going without having to step outside! No need to grab that umbrella!

    5. Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex

In 2011, we opened the Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex. This four-story facility features our internationally renowned Biomedical Communications program. Also calling this space home is the Mississauga Academy of Medicine, a partnership between U of T Mississauga, U of T’s Faculty of Medicine, Trillium Health Centre and Credit Valley Hospital – a tangible representation of the symbiotic relationships our campus cultivates with a variety of businesses and industries in the Greater Toronto Area. Mississauga Academy of Medicine

The Mississauga Academy of Medicine is U of T’s fourth medical academy – the other three are located in the city of Toronto. The academies are the Faculty of Medicine’s network of sites that provide clinical, research and other elements of the undergraduate curriculum.

      Fun fact:
Rainwater from the building is directed to a large underground cistern. The collected water is used for flushing toilets and for irrigation, thereby reducing the need to use city water. And on the roof, vegetated roofs mitigate the "urban heat island" effect.

    6. Communication, Culture and Technology Building

The Communication, Culture and Technology building, or CCT, opened in 2006, is home to the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology which houses interdisciplinary programs that explore communication, traditional and digital media, and technological innovation.

This building also features our premier lecture theatre, the largest on campus, CC1080, which seats 500 students.

      MiST Theatre

The CCT Building is also home to one of two theatres on campus – the Multimedia Studio Theatre, or MiST as it is commonly known, is a modern, flexible space used for multimedia performances, traditional dance, and a venue for visiting artists and performers

      Information & Instructional Technology Services

The I&ITS offers support for your U of T email (ever student gets a @mail.utoronto.ca email address), TCard (your Student ID card), Shuttle Bus tickets/passes, UTORid (a unique U of T ID), campus printing, wireless access, residence internet, and computer labs.

    7. Hazel McCallion Academic Learning Centre

The University of Toronto boasts 44 libraries, making it the third largest library system in North America, after Harvard and Yale. Opened in 2007, and named after former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion, the UTM Library is a vibrant and dynamic space where students and faculty come to research, study, read, and collaborate – not to mention the Library is connected directly to a Starbucks! Plus, they’ve got more than just books. Forgot your phone charger, need to borrow a laptop, or looking for a new board game to play? The Information & Loans Desk has got you covered!

The UTM Library has an amazing team of dedicated librarians and research specialists who are available to work with you and support your research requests and academic goals. Our librarians also work with directly with your professors and develop special learning guides for your assignments to further enhance your learning experience.

      Intercampus Delivery service
The Intercampus Delivery (ICD) service allows eligible students, faculty and staff to request books, articles and other materials that are not available at the U of T Mississauga Library from any of U of T's 44 Libraries to be shipped right to campus.

    8. Instructional Centre

The Instructional Centre (which we call IB, and not IC for reasons you’ll learn when you become a student here), was completed in 2011. IB features many of our lecture theatres, computer labs, classrooms, and study spaces. Because of its popularity, IB was constructed with local and durable building materials made with renewable or recycled content. Even the orientation and positioning of the building on campus and its large windows were designed to maximize the amount of natural light that enters the building. And of course, IB also has a great food court with sushi, ramen, sandwiches, burritos, and an excellent poke bowl!

      St. George Shuttle Bus

We operate a shuttle bus service between the Mississauga and St. George (downtown Toronto) campuses of the university with departures generally every 20 minutes. As a U of T Mississauga student, you are eligible to take this shuttle fare-free!

      Bees!

UTM is home to five beehives with a total population of 150,000 Buckfast bees, which are known to be very calm and non-aggressive. The honey they produce is used for various initiatives such as UTM kitchens, Community Kitchen workshops, and for sale to the UTM community.

      Good to know...
No matter what programs you choose to pursue, students take classes in any of our academic buildings because we don't have traditional "arts" or "sciences" buildings. Sure, your chemistry lab may be in the Davis Building, but your lecture could be right here in the Instructional Centre!

    9. Maanjiwe nendamowinan

Maanjiwe nendamowinan is the newest addition to our campus and represents the single largest increase in campus space since the original buildings. It sits in place of what used to be the original building at U of T Mississauga in 1967 – the North Building. In fact, over 80% of the waste from the demolition of the old building was recycled or reused in the construction of this building.

This beautiful and bright six-story building features a spacious atrium and contemporary active-learning classrooms: advanced learning spaces that are designed to facilitate group work and collaboration. This building is also home to the departments of English and Drama, Philosophy, Historical Studies, Language Studies, Political Science, and Sociology.

For those of you who are curious, the name of the building is Indigenous and means a “Gathering of Minds.” A diverse committee reviewed more than 700 entries and collaborated with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the hosts of the traditional territory upon which the campus now stands, to select this name.

      Fair Trade Café

U of T Mississauga is the first campus in Canada to receive a silver designation from Fair Trade Canada. All tea and coffee offered at non-branded campus food stations, including Fair Trade Café in MN, are certified fair trade, including an expanded menu of loose leaf and bag teas.

      Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre

The Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre offers a full range of workshops, seminars, and individual consultations to help you identify and develop the academic skills you need for success in your studies.

    10. Deerfield Hall

Opened in 2014 and recently renovated to connect with Maanjiwe nendamowinan, Deerfield Hall is home to the departments of Psychology and Mathematical & Computational Sciences. An employee suggested the name for building as an ode to our campus for being deer friendly. Every year, families of deer call our campus home and can be seen both in and around our surrounding forests as well walking the trails alongside our students!

      North Side Bistro

North Side Bistro serves delicious gourmet pizzas, fresh salads, & homemade soups! You can also warm up with a fresh cup of tea or coffee, paired with a selection of sweet desserts!

      Deerfield in Minecraft?
A small group of U of T Mississauga students have been working diligently over the past few months to recreate, in exacting detail, a slice of campus in Minecraft. Since Deerfield Hall is the hub for Computer Science students, the small team of students chose to start with this building. Make sure you watch the video to see what they created!

    11. Erindale Studio Theatre

Theatre Erindale is the production company of the Theatre and Drama Studies program and presents a full season of plays within the intimate and state-of-the-art Erindale Studio Theatre. Every student in the Theatre & Drama Studies program participates in at least two productions every year and has a variety of roles and responsibilities based on their year of studies, everything from backstage support in first year to acting roles by third year.

      And action!
What were we up to last year? Check out past seasons, our production history, and photo galleries – last year featured Anna Karenina, The Roaring Girls, and The Cecil Hotel.

    12. Student Residences

U of T Mississauga offers the most diverse housing options anywhere at U of T, with townhouse, apartment, and suite style residences for more than 1,500 students. We offer both single and double rooms and can partner you with roommates that share your values and habits. So, whether you’re a night owl or an early riser, the on-campus housing community is sure to ease your transition to university.

Students entering their first year will be placed in one of our first-year communities. To support your first-year transition, each student will have an assigned Peer Academic Leader (PAL) and Don to help answer questions, and lead seminars, social events and study sessions. Our first-year communities make it easy to walk to class, review notes and study for exams with your neighbours and roommates!

One of the many benefits of living on campus is having a mandatory on-campus meal plan. There are so many places on campus to eat, which also cater to many dietary and cultural meal requirements.

    13. Student Centre

The Student Centre is home to U of T Mississauga Student Union. Full-time and part-time undergraduate students have access to a range of programs, services and resources. The student union provides many opportunities to get involved on campus, such as: Frosh Week, where you’ll make your first friends on campus, and the very popular Clubs Week, where you can explore some of the 180+ clubs on campus.

This building is also home to the Blind Duck Pub, where you will find the best chicken wings on campus, and where you can grab a bubble tea before class.

      BikeShare

BikeShare provides free 48-hour bicycle rentals. BikeShare performs educational repairs, where we teach you how to perform the repairs that your bike needs.

      Duck Stop

Want a healthy snack on the go for under five dollars? Need a calculator for your 9 am exam? Looking for some chocolate to get you through a two-hour lecture? Come by the UTMSU Duck Stop for all your convenient needs!

      Multi-faith Prayer Space

The University of Toronto provides facilities for members of all faith communities to practice their religion, their traditions and rituals and is accommodating a diversity of faith-based and spiritual practices.

University of Toronto Mississauga Students’ Union

The University of Toronto Mississauga Students’ Union (UTMSU) represents over 15,000 students across the University of Toronto Mississauga Campus.

      U-Pass

The Student Centre is where every U of T Mississauga student can pick up their U-Pass, a student transit card allowing unlimited fare-free rides on MiWay, Mississauga's transit system.
