Thirteen classrooms are available at the Education Center at Blue Island, most with seating for 32 students. This includes three computer labs, phlebotomy lab, basic nursing assistant lab and nursing labs. The courses offered change every semester, and the center offers a variety of classes, including general education courses that count toward an associate degree and can transfer to four-year colleges and universities toward a bachelor’s degree. General education courses include composition, math, life science, physical science, humanities, fine arts and social sciences. Adult Education courses such as High School Equivalency (offered in English or Spanish), English as a Second Language and Citizenship courses also are offered.
The center offers career program courses for students going into such fields as nursing, phlebotomy, basic nursing assistant, medical assistant and more.
Most courses at the Education Center at Blue Island are in person. Hybrid courses, where a portion of the course is in the classroom and a portion is online (usually meeting one day per week), also are offered.
