  1. Southwest Education Center Tour

The Southwest Education Center (SWEC) is a full-service facility, with modern classrooms, science labs, computer labs, and study rooms.

    Stops

    1. Lobby

Our lobby area houses our front desk staff, and adjacent to it is our Cybercafé where students have access to computers, printer and scanner, a charging station for electronic devices, and a small vending area with snacks, drinks, and coffee. Ample study spaces include the Quiet Study Lounge, a rooftop study area, an outdoor patio on the ground level, and many comfortable chairs, couches, and tables.

    2. Classrooms

Thirteen classrooms are available at SWEC. This includes two computer labs, one science lab, a basic nursing assistant lab, a nursing lab, and a nursing simulation room.

The courses offered change every semester, but we always offer a wide variety of classes including general education courses that go towards an Associate’s degree and can transfer to four-year colleges and universities towards a bachelor’s degree. General education courses include composition, math, life science, physical science, humanities, fine arts, and social sciences.

We also offer career program courses for students going into nursing and basic nursing assistant.

Most courses at the Southwest Education Center are face-to-face.  We do offer some hybrid courses, where a portion of the course is in the classroom (usually one day a week) and a portion is online.

    3. Student Services

A Student Development Specialist is available to provide general services regarding admissions, enrollment, financial aid, and course selection.

We also offer photo ID services, library services so students can request books and periodicals from the main campus, bookstore delivery, and textbook and calculator loans to students.

A Counselor is available to work with currently enrolled students to help them establish educational goals, develop a career direction, and make personal adjustments to get the most from their college experience. Several types of counseling is offered: Career Counseling, Educational Counseling, and Personal Counseling.

    4. Testing Center

The Testing Center is where students can take the placement test. Placement test exemptions can be found online here. Students also can take makeup tests and quizzes in our Testing Center.

    5. Green roof

The green roof is an aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment where students can study, eat or relax. It also preserves the roof, insulates for sound and regulates building temperature. The green roof benches consist of 100% recycled plastic. The reflective white roof cuts energy bills and greenhouse gases.

    6. Parking Lot

Bioswales throughout the parking lot are vegetated open trenches and like detention ponds, to store storm water runoff and prevent from flooding.  Porous paving materials lessen water waste and protects the parking lot from flooding.

Fuel Efficient Parking Spots are “prime” parking spots for fuel efficient vehicles.  Two charging stations are available for electric vehicles.
