With the construction of McClintock, creation of a women's quad bordered by Bull, Greene, Pickens and Devine streets was finalized. The quad's completion coincided with the rise of a national fad — panty raids — which prompted university officials in 1956 to temporarily close the entire block around the quad to males after 11 p.m. McClintock and the rest of the quad's buildings were completely renovated and joined together with connector wings in 2013-14. The residence hall is named for Euphemia McClintock, who served as president of the College for Women in Columbia.
