When it was completed in 2004, the Green Quad (formerly West Quad) became the university's first LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building on campus, earning a Silver level designation. The quad, which incorporates traditional architectural detail with many energy and water-saving features, is home to a student residential community committed to sustainability. A community garden behind the quad is one of several green features. In 2015, the campus had 16 green buildings, which collectively produced annual energy and water savings of $3.2 million.
