Mueller Hall was completed in 1989 and was named for Prof. James Mueller, a professor and chair of the Mining and Metallurgical and Ceramic Engineering department. It was designed as a "daylight basement" facility surrounding a sunken plaza to allow nearby Roberts Hall to retain its visual prominence.
