      1. Kirsten Wind Tunnel

The facility was opened in 1936 as the University of Washington Aeronautical Lab. Its existence comes from an idea proposed by Prof. F. K. Kirsten for a wind tunnel to be used for aeronautical research tests. Funding for the construction of the tunnel came from Washington state, the Public Works Administration, and the Boeing Co. The facility was later renamed to the Kirsten Wind Tunnel to honor its founder.
