St. Mary’s Student Center first opened in 1937 as the campus dining hall. From 1959 to 1986 it served as the University’s chapel. In 1986, it became the University’s student center.
In addition to a large lounge used for studying and informal meetings, the building also houses the offices of the student news, The Beacon; the yearbook, The Log; the Associated Students of the University of Portland (ASUP); students activities; diversity and multicultural programs; Moreau Center for Service and Justice; and Campus Ministry.
