Elks Place houses the Student Health Center and Financial Services.
Elks Place also houses the Elk Place Health Spot, launched in June 2017 by the Tulane University School of Social Work. It offers free health screenings and resources. The Health Spot serves both as a community education center and a practical training ground for social work graduate students, aligning with the program's goals of preparing students for clinical and community practice while promoting diversity, justice, and research-based approaches. In collaboration with the City of New Orleans, students engage in outreach activities, connecting with 15 to 20 organizations monthly and serving an estimated 100 to 150 community members. Services provided range from health screenings to information on topics like Medicare, substance abuse, and prenatal care, along with facilitating medical appointments and services for children.
Located one building off Canal Street, the building was constructed in the early 1900’s as the Gulf Oil and Refining headquarters. It was later used for the Elk’s Lodge. There was a swimming pool and full gymnasium. The original building was designed by Howard Coleman.
