The Peace Pole is in the gardens between Clark Library and Buckley Center. The pole honors UP alumni, family, and friends who came together to bring hope to Herman Buchholz ’64 and Joena (Shay) Buchholz ’67 during a difficult time. The couple traveled to Germany in December 2011 to visit their daughter. Shortly after they arrived, Joena became ill and began a battle for her life. Herm and Joena's daughter reached out to Joena’s 1964-65 Salzburg classmates and Herm’s Upsilon Omega Pi brothers for support.
