    1. Desegregation Monument

On Sep. 11, 1963, Henrie Monteith, Robert Anderson and James Solomon Jr. were the first African American students to enroll in the university in the 20th century. This statue honors their legacy and was built to recognize the 60th Anniversary of Desegregation at the University of South Carolina.

This black granite and bronze statue commemorates the post-Reconstruction integration of USC. Inspired by the now-iconic photo of three African American students — Robert Anderson, Henrie Monteith and James Solomon Jr. — stepping out of the Osborne Administration building after meeting with university officials on Sept. 11, 1963.
