History of Washburn Hall
Dr. Gene Washburn, who came home from service to join his brother’s medical practice, was a 1952 Gardner-Webb alumnus and former Board of Trustee chair. He also was the team doctor for GWU Athletics. Washburn Hall is named in honor of Dr. Gene and his wife, Billie, and their significant contributions to Gardner-Webb. Before being donated to Gardner-Webb, the building was for many years the site of Dr. Gene’s medical practice.
