The Virtual Curation Laboratory at VCU was established in August 2011 with funding from the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management program to test the efficacy of 3-D scanning for the preservation of archaeological remains. Since its inception, the Virtual Curation Laboratory has expanded its mission to 3-D scan historical, archaeological, and paleontological discoveries through partnerships with natural, historical, and cultural institutions across North America, as well as one museum in Northern India.
