      1. Campaign for the Twenty-First Century

The Campaign for the Twenty-First Century, considered the most ambitious fund-raising effort undertaken by an organization in Arkansas, spanned 3/1/1998-6/30/2005. The $500-million Campaign's objective was to raise funds for scholarship and faculty endowments, capital improvements, program support and annual giving. The goal was reached, then raised to $900 million. That goal was attained and raised to $1 billion, placing the University among 24 other institutions in America actively engaged in such drives. The Campaign finished by raising more than $1 billion, significantly augmenting the institution's endowment. Commemorating the Campaign's transformational impact and symbolizing that the University's "time has come," the Campaign Steering Committee gave gifts to add a clock to Old Main's south tower, a part of the structure's original design, finally realized 130 years later.
