Office of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Initiatives
The Office of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Initiatives at Lake Tahoe Community College helps Latino/a/x/e, low-income, and otherwise underserved students interested in pursuing higher education and certifications. The office receives funding from the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) grant and the Hispanic-Serving Institutions – Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (HSI-STEM) grant. These grants bolster Lake Tahoe Community College's existing student services by providing funding to develop various programs around campus further. In the office, students can meet with the Director of HSI Initiatives, Manuel (Manny) Sanchez, and the HSI Retention Specialist, Steve Huerta Raygoza. We also work closely with the Outreach Coordinator, Kenya Sancho. As a team, we help students by assisting them in taking advantage of available resources such as free counseling and tutoring, financial aid services, transfer guidance, and mental health and wellness support. We also support career path development by connecting students with valuable, relevant internships and work experiences. La Oficina de Iniciativas de Instituciones de Servicio Hispano (HSI) de Lake Tahoe Community College ayuda a estudiantes latinos/a/x/e, de bajos ingresos y de otro modo desatendidos interesados en obtener educación superior y certificaciones. La oficina recibe fondos de la subvención de Desarrollo de Instituciones de Servicio a Hispanos (DHSI) y de la subvención de Instituciones de Servicio a Hispanos: Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería o Matemáticas (HSI-STEM). Estas subvenciones refuerzan los servicios estudiantiles existentes de Lake Tahoe Community College al proporcionar fondos para desarrollar aún más varios programas en el campus. En la oficina, los estudiantes pueden reunirse con el Director de Iniciativas de HSI, Manuel (Manny) Sánchez, y el Especialista en Retención de HSI, Steve Huerta Raygoza.
