      1. Carroll Library (Texas Collection)

Carroll Library, situated on the Quadrangle and one of the oldest buildings on campus, is home to the Texas Collection, which fills the building as the largest Texana collection at any private university. It includes hundreds of thousands of books, periodicals, photographs and other documents and files, related to Texas and Texans. The building originally housed a 2,500-seat chapel, classrooms, the university museum (forerunner of today’s Mayborn Museum), and the beginnings of Dr. A.J. Armstrong’s Browning collection. A fire in 1922 ravaged the building leaving only the building’s exterior brick walls. The building was rebuilt and became the universities primary library housing the main collection of reading materials for nearly half a century until Moody Memorial Library opened in 1968.
