These shared systems offer the college an alternate, more sustainable, carbon-free mode of transportation (particularly suitable for short-distance excursions) that dramatically decreases traffic congestion, air pollution, and promotes greener urban growth. Cycling has been linked to a "reduced risk of cancer and heart disease," and bike infrastructure helps make cities more inclusive because many minority and low-income areas rely on bicycles as their primary form of transportation.
