      1. Powell Hall - Music Department

Powell Hall is one of VSU's most historic buildings. Originally built as the university library, Powell Hall was funded through the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Roosevelt administration. Construction was completed in 1940, and the building was dedicated in 1941 by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

Today, Powell Hall serves as a vibrant teaching, learning, and performance space for VSU's Department of Music. The beautifully renovated facility features student gathering areas, practice and rehearsal rooms, a music education classroom, a jazz ensemble room, a conference room, and a recital hall with seating for up to 200 guests. It is also home to approximately half a million dollars' worth of new pianos, providing students with exceptional spaces to learn, perform, and collaborate.
