The availability of water fountains/refill stations allows UTRGV to contribute to UN's SDG # 6: clean water and sanitation for all, ensuring access to safe water throughout campus. They also work to reduce pollution by encouraging reusable bottle use instead of bottled water consumption, which impacts the environment in multiple ways. These include the transportation, manufacture, and disposal of single-use plastic products. Being water and energy-efficient, water fountains/refill stations provide the university community with a basic need in a sustainable way.
