A pretty large tree, reaching heights of around 60-90 feet, the canopy grows into a pyramidal to broad conical shape. The leaves of the tree are bright green, having four lobes. In the fall, the leaves turn golden yellow. The most notable characteristic is the 2 inch long, cup shaped flowers that appear from May-June and resemble tulips. The showy flowers are yellow with an orange band around the base of each petal. When pollinated, the flowers produce samaras that are arranged into a brown oblong cone-shaped structure. The wood of the tree is utilized for many products including boats, furniture, paper, and lumber.
