Sothern magnolia are large trees reaching heights of up to 80 feet tall. They have a pyramidal to rounded canopy shape and are an evergreen that actively growing through the winter seasons. Their leaves are very thick and waxy with a pale green to brownish colored underside. The leaves have an ovate shape, but sometimes they appear to have an elliptical shape. Featuring a white-velvety flower, southern magnolia trees bloom from May-June. The flowers are around 8-12 inches wide, are extremely fragrant, and are a creamy white colored. When flowers are pollinated, they produce a husky brown colored structure that slightly resembles a cone, which contains vibrant red seeds on the outside.
