      1. Roberts Hall

Roberts Hall was the first structure to be built when High Point College was founded in 1924. Architectural design cues were taken from Independence Hall in Philadelphia. At it's inception, Roberts Hall housed classrooms, faculty offices, the student center, the cafeteria, the auditorium, and the library. Since High Point College was built on one of the highest points in the Triad (Greensboro, High Point, & Winston-Salem), the tower of Roberts Hall was an ideal place for Army Air Force cadets, who were stationed at the college during WWII, to practice spotting and identification of planes leaving the Greensboro-High Point Airport, which is now Piedmont Triad International Airport. The student theatre group built sets and performed where the 4-way clock tower is housed today, which is how they got their name, The Tower Players. The campus radio station was originally housed in the tower as well. Today, Roberts Hall functions as HPU’s administrative building and remains a prominent campus landmark. The building contains administrative offices including the Office of the President. Commencement takes place on the Roberts Hall lawn each year, using this spectacular building as a backdrop for the ceremony, attended by more than 10,000 students, faculty and guests.
