The UT Compost Facility serves to mitigate all organic waste produced by the University of Tennessee. By processing on average 700 tons of biological waste per year, the facility is able to divert materials from being sent to landfill. Food waste, landscaping debris, woodchips from tree removal, leaves, manure, and animal bedding are all processed into a nutrient-rich soil additive that replaces the need for artificial fertilizers throughout many large-scale operations on campus.
