The David W. Ginevan Recycling Center has diverted more than 55% of the waste consumed on campus since 1994. Students are able to explore donated "gems" such as textbooks, futons, or lamps, that are in good condition. The Center is powered in part by a wind turbine.

Middlebury runs a College-wide recycling center. Each year, about 65 percent of campus waste is diverted from landfills by going instead to recycling, compost or reuse. The Recycling Center employees students and staff to help sort waste. Middlebury College uses a no-sort recycling system. Recycling all goes into one bin, compost into another, and everything else that cannot be reused goes into the landfill bin. Recycling and landfill items are sent off campus for disposal, while compost is taken to our on-campus composting facility. Items that can be reused get organized into one of several Reuse Trailers that campus community members can "shop" at during Recycling Center hours. The Recycling Center also hosts an annual summer yard sale with items leftover from the move-out process at the end of each year.
