      1. Warner Hall

Generations of Middlebury students have sat along the curved walls of the Warner Hemicycle, listening to lectures, asking questions, and engaging in debates. The tiered seats extend off the back of the building, which also contains classrooms, offices, and the prime staircase, which only goes to floors two, three, and five.

When the building opened in 1901 for the expanded science program, the College was so proud it opened the doors and allowed any and all townspeople and friends of the College to tour the cutting-edge laboratories, full of shiny, new equipment.

While the building’s purpose has changed—it now houses the Mathematics and Economics Departments—it has maintained its commitment to staying cutting edge. Upcoming renovations will include upgrades to classroom equipment and accessibility changes, including an elevator, and transformation of the entryway from stairs to a ramp as part of Middlebury’s commitment to Universal Designs, which goes beyond ADA compliance. Thus, all students will be able to enter together.
