This handsome brick building in downtown Middlebury was once the seat of the local judicial system. Built in 1883, it sits atop land once owned by Gamaliel Painter, one of the College’s founders. After the town built the expanded Mahady Courthouse in the 1990s, Middlebury acquired the brick building. Since then it has held staff offices, the College’s Center for Educational Technology, and even a start-up incubator.
