The Observatory is what all of our astronomy majors have been waiting for. The Murillo Family Observatory Lab opened in January of 2012 on the north side of campus near Badger Hill. The observatory was named in honor of Pauline and George Murillo and their family, who made a generous contribution toward the project. It is the only teaching observatory in the Inland Empire. The lab serves as a center for training educators in the subjects of astronomy and space sciences. It also exposes students studying astronomy to the wonders of the universe through direct observation. Additionally, the observatory is used to facilitate research through hands-on observation and operation of professional equipment.
The observatory boasts two towers, each housing a telescope. Guests also have the opportunity to view the beautiful stars and planets through an array of telescopes along the observation deck. The 17-inch and 20-inch telescopes inside the domes are operational, and the monitors display the images captured through the larger telescopes ready for analysis. Will you be the next to make a major discovery?
