      1. Jim C. Whitt Bell Tower

The Jim C. Whitt Bell Tower was constructed in 2016 and includes a historic heirloom from LMU's rich history, the original bell from Avery Hall's belfry. At the center of the LMU Quad, the Whitt Bell Tower chimes on the hour. It was dedicated in honor of Jim C. Whitt in October 2016. Whitt, a 1962 graduate, was a longtime educator in Lee County, Viriginia, serving as a teacher and administrator. In retirement, Whitt served his alma mater as an English and Spanish teacher at J. Frank White Academy. He developed a devoted following of students. Whitt passed away in 2011.
