The Sidney and Minnie Kosasa Community for Grades 2 – 5 represents Punahou’s educational philosophy for the 21st century. It incorporates the latest research about the neurology of learning into an instructional vision based on personalization and flexibility to create learning that is relevant and enduring.

It is teacher-inspired, student-centered and research-driven, and built to the highest levels of green building and design, and funded entirely through philanthropy, without drawing on tuition dollars or incurring long-term debt. The Sidney and Minnie Kosasa Community was named by lead donors Dr. Thomas '63 and Mi Kosasa, and his siblings Paul Kosasa P’11, Susan Kosasa and Gloria Kosasa ’68 Gainsley in honor of their parents.

When phase 1a of Kosasa Community opened in fall 2016, second- and third-graders moved into 12 new studio classrooms, multiple music rooms and innovative design spaces.

Planning is underway for Kosasa Community to be the first net-zero facility on Punahou's campus.
