Construction is on schedule for a fall 2019 opening of phase 1b of Sidney and Minnie Kosasa Community. Upon completion, the entire Kosasa Community will include 28 new classrooms, the Junior School Learning Commons and the Quilter Lab for Creative Arts.
The Centerpiece of the Community will be the nearly 20,000-square foot Learning Commons for students in kindergarten to grade 8. This will include technology/media facilities, design and fabrication spaces, administrative, instructional and conference rooms, flexible creative, social gathering and outdoor areas, and traditional reading and research spaces. Adjacent to the Learning Commons will be a visual and performing arts building.
In fall 2019, studio classrooms in phase 1b will be home to second- and third-graders. Their proximity to the Lily Pond, Hawaiian gardens, and a new hale and will enrich their Hawaiian Studies Curriculum. At that time, fourth- and fifth-graders will move into phase 1a studio classrooms.
