Barwick Banyan Tree
Situated on Barwick Playground, the Barwick banyan (ficus benghalensis) has been a beloved campus feature and place for play for almost 100 years. The Indian banyan earned its iconic status with the dedication of Barwick Playground in the early 1950s, during the construction of the former Mary Persis Winne Units for elementary students. Now situated in Sidney and Minnie Kosasa Community for Grades 2 – 5, Barwick Playground and its towering banyan will continue to be one of Punahou’s enduring fixtures.
