Morton Hall is named in honor of Margaret Shannon Morton, one of the original full-time faculty members of Wilmington College. Professor Morton was the first full-time teacher hired at Wilmington College, the first teacher in the Department of English (1947-63), the first chairman in the Department of English, and Dean of Women (1955-63).
