Address: 72 University Pl
Description: Home to the Departments of Art and Art History, Health and Society Program, as well as Anthropology, this historic building along University Row also features classroom, studio and exhibit space. The Art program's Colburn Gallery serves as a showcase for the work of students, faculty, and visiting artists.
Built in 1896 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the three-story brick building features a Romanesque arch and terra cotta Gothic ornamentation. Originally a science building, Williams’ facade features terra cotta medallions, with reliefs of three noted American scientists of the day: Louis Agassiz, Samuel F. B. Morse and Joseph Henry. Gargoyles defend the building at the bases of the gable parapets.
