Galloway Hall (originally called “Dorm ‘71”) was the first residence hall built on the UNCW campus and was the first air-conditioned residence hall in the University of North Carolina system.
Galloway Hall was named in memory of Edmond R. Galloway, a UNCW freshman in 1974, who suffered a fatal head injury from a bicycling accident on campus. In 1975, the residence hall was formally dedicated in Mr. Galloway’s name. Galloway Hall is the only campus building named after a modern UNCW student.
