This 9-foot-tall, nearly 1,500-pound bronze sculpture depicts Gen. Robert Neyland kneeling with a whistle around his neck. Neyland was the Vols head football coach from 1926-1952, including two interruptions for military service (1935, 1941-45). After retiring from coaching, he served as athletic director until his death in 1962. He was the guiding force behind additions to the capacity of
Neyland Stadium that was dedicated in his name in 1962.
