    1. Nelson Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Technology Health Center

The Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program within the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Science at Jacksonville University leverages universal design approaches to provide a high-fidelity, state-of-the-science, experiential learning environment to facilitate student clinical reasoning and practice skills. This Living Laboratory meets the growing research and technology needs in Occupational Therapy leveraging a multi-contextual Simulation Suite and FAB-Lab (Fabrication lab supporting Orthotics and 3D Printing). Other high-tech instrumentation includes a BTE PrimusRS Activity Simulator, Dynavision Visual Perception Trainer and Virtual Anatomy Table (Anatomage) for not-so-gross Anatomy. Next phases of development at the NORTH-C will be to establish the Dolphintelligent Smart Home supporting telehealth/telerehab technology for Aging-in-Place; and the Driving Safety and Community Mobility Laboratory for investigating human factors and mobility independence.

Situated adjacent to the Dolphin Pointe Skilled and Assistive Living facilities as well as directly supporting evaluations for JU’s Wilma’s Little People School, the NORTH-C supports the Department of Occupational Therapy’s vision supporting a naturalistic, multi-generational community dynamic.

The built environment is critically important for promoting engagement in meaningful occupations, and the capacity of all people, regardless of ability, to participate within their homes and communities. This facility serves as a programmatic showcase establishing Jacksonville University as a national leader for excellence and innovation in occupational therapy education.
