Tulane's beloved Nutall Oak that served as the "Bead Tree" for over 30 years passed on and was replaced in 2020 with three 21-foot tall steel and acrylic "trees," known as the
Bead Three. The trees were designed by Architect and Tulane Professor, Irene Keil, along with her husband, local artist, David Gregor, as a way to memorialize the Bead Tree.
Throwing beads in the bead tree has become a rite of passage for Tulane students. They say that landing a bead on your first try is a sign of good luck to come!
