Tulane University was selected on June 1st, 1938, for the establishment of a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit. Since its inception, the Tulane NROTC Unit has aimed to commission the best trained and most highly qualified Ensigns and Second Lieutenants in the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Nearly 80 years later, the unit proudly exists as one of the oldest active NROTC programs in the nation.

The Navy R.O.T.C. building was built in 1912 by DeBuys, Churchill and Labouisse architects, and was originally a gymnasium adjacent to the former football stadium.

Tulane University NROTC has expanded to host Midshipmen from the following cross-town affiliated schools:  Loyola University, Xavier University, Dillard University, University of New Orleans, and Southern University at New Orleans.

Tulane University NROTC is proud to have received the 2019-2020 Department of Defense Reserve Officers' Training Corps Excellence Award from the Honorable Lloyd J. Austin III, recognizing our unit among all ROTC units nationally.
