Commonly known by the Tulane School of Architecture students as RMH, it now houses the many different majors under the architecture degree. This includes design, sustainable real estate, historic preservation, and landscape design.
The building opened in 1908, designed by Andry and Bendernagel architects. The building was originally built to house the first and second year medical students. However, the medical laboratories were converted into studio spaces with high ceilings and natural light. Lectures take place in the former anatomy theater. Work is often on display in the lobby.
Renovation began on Richardson Memorial Hall around 2021, relocating its students to temporary classrooms on Newcomb Quad. Due to the growing population of the architecture school, and a number of safety concerns due to the over 100-year-old building, the renovation and addition is sure to provide more space and a comfortable space for students. The renovation has completely gutted the interior and added new classroom and circulation space on the back. The building is set to reopen in the Fall of 2024.
