The observatory contains a 16-inch reflector telescope and is used throughout the year for course instruction and faculty/student research. This and several smaller telescopes are used by students in introductory classes for observing stars, planets, and nebulae, and by upper-level students for research studies of quasars, galaxies, and supernova explosions.
