The Indiana Central Canal Towpath, which runs along the canal and the west side of campus, is a popular trail for runners, walkers, and bicyclists. The trail runs north into Broad Ripple and south past the Indianapolis Museum of Art. As you follow the tree-lined, crushed limestone path, keep your eyes open for blue heron, ducks, geese, and turtles. The canal, which features two 19th-century iron bridges that cross the waterway, moves water about 6.5 miles from the White River to Citizens White River Treatment Plant off 16th Street just west of downtown.
